Virtual Conference: The present and future of ESG reporting

In recent years, many economies have seen rapid shifts in the adoption of ESG reporting by their largest companies, driven not only by new laws and regulations from governments and stock exchanges but also by a growing understanding in the financial sector of the crucial link between ESG and financial performance, as well as changing expectations of the role of business in society.

Multiple frameworks have risen in the last decades to address different stakeholder needs. These developments have been welcomed by some segments in the market that view transparent measurement and reporting of ESG performance as a fundamental part of effective business management, and essential for earning trust with stakeholders. Yet, for other segments, the complexity surrounding the ESG reporting landscape has made it difficult to understand the differences among frameworks and standards and to capture the link between ESG and financial performance. As the world strives to build back better in the post-pandemic context, effective ESG reporting and harmonization in the reporting landscape are essential pieces in the puzzle to enable shared value creation and to develop the comprehensive solutions and resilience that are urgently needed.
